How to delete an Undeletable File?

Most of us might have come across this situation wherein you can’t get rid off your unwanted files. When you try to delete them windows simply pops you with an error saying “The file cannot be deleted”.  This generally happens if the file is corrupted. And here is a “HOW To ” to get rid off such files.

Note:

  1. If you are trying to delete a file in use, first stop the program that’s using the file and then continue.
  2. If you are trying to delete a “.avi” video file then visit this post :  How to delete an Un-deletable Video (.avi) file?

Steps:

  1. Save all your documents :) and close all the programs.
  2. Reboot your computer.
  3. Now try deleting the file.
  4. If you still can’t delete the file, then reboot your computer again (this time to boot into safe mode).
  5. Keep pressing F8 key (You should start pressing F8 key as soon as your system restarts) till you see the Windows Advanced options menu. Select Safe mode and press Enter key.
  6. Now windows loads some necessary stuff to load the Safe mode. If prompted give proper credentials to log in to safe mode.
  7. Now you try to delete the file. If  you are successful :) then reboot into normal mode. If not :( try using a third part software (search “File shredders” in you favorite search engine to get one).

That’s how you can get rid off un deletable files.
