How to make your Home Page fixed always

It’s common that while you are browsing there are many sites attempt to change your homepage. It’s tiring to change it back every time you encounter one. Of course those sites  intentionally modify your registry editor (Cheap tricks huh !!!) and set their website as your default home page.

Here’s how you fix it :

  • Have u ever created a shortcut (Hey not by right clicking something and create shortcut) by using New -> Shortcut ? It will be just below New Folder option of your context menu unless you tweaked it .
  • So you can create a shortcut to mozilla firefox or internet explorer through this :

The target locations for default installations are (type them in quotes) :

Firefox: “C:Program FilesMozilla Firefoxfirefox.exe”

Internet Explorer : “C:Program FilesInternet Exploreriexplore.exe”

  • You can even add your own favorite icon to it. Now after creating this you can observe that if you append anything after the target location (after quotes) the respective browser will try opening it as a web address. So if you type a website address there it will be opened always.
  • Instead of creating a new shortcut you can directly modify your IE / Firefox shortcut by right clicking the shortcut and appending your home page address to it.

As an Example :

Suppose you want to make http:\justtechie.com as your home page permanently ( I mean you are not giving scope for websites you browse to change it ).  Then you do this

  1. Right-click on the Internet Explorer /Mozilla Firefox shortcut icon on your desktop / quick launch and select “Properties”.
  2. In the “Target” box you will see  “C:Program FilesMozilla Firefoxfirefox.exe” –> for Mozilla  Firefox or “C:Program FilesInternet Exploreriexplore.exe” for Internet Explorer.
  3. Now you modify it as follows
  • “C:Program FilesInternet ExplorerIEXPLORE.EXE” http://justtechie.com –> for Internet Explorer
  • “C:Program FilesMozilla Firefoxfirefox.exe” http://justtechie.com –> for Mozilla Firefox

It’s done, from now on use this shortcut to launch your browser.

The Concept :

The concept is really very simple. Adding the URL of your favorite site to the end of the target location, overrides any
Homepage setting in internet options.
